Gemma Serrano is a teacher of Spanish language and literature and head of her department at the Instituto de Educación Secundaria Antares, in Rivas Vaciamadrid. She is a writer and poet, with two published books, the most recent of which is entitled Escombros: Casa Museo.
The ambition to move towards a more inclusive school education has been established as one of the great educational goals for the 21st century, as reflected in the fourth of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations. Although some may not realize it, this is the most challenging of the goals facing any education system in the world today, since these have been built in the past and maintained until now as exclusionary systems and on the premise of a dichotomous view of the school population: one that defines some students as normal and the rest as special, rare or different from the majority.
Transforming this reality in order to contribute from school education to the development of a fairer society, which recognizes the equal dignity of all students and offers them all equal opportunities to learn and participate, requires the conjunction of educational policies for equity with an ecological, systemic and local perspective. It also means having and sharing a clear idea of what we are talking about when we speak of educational inclusion, as well as for what and why, and who we are talking about and what its nature is and the urgent tasks that must be undertaken to close the gap between desires and reality.

These awards recognize business plan projects developed by high school and vocational training students, and are intended to promote entrepreneurship among pre-university students.
These students have the opportunity to demonstrate their capacity for entrepreneurship, creativity, organization and enthusiasm through the definition and conceptualization of a business creation project. Conceiving an idea, developing a business project, evaluating investment alternatives, defending it before a panel of experts… are some of the challenges that have been overcome by the participants in previous editions of this award.
During the same day dedicated to Entrepreneurship, the Nebrija University presented the Entrepreneurial Woman Award in the Northwest area of Madrid, which in its third edition went to Macarena Sánchez, founder of El Herbolario de Hoyo, the first establishment of its kind in Hoyo de Manzanares.
The main objective of this award, organized by the Club Nebrija Emprendedores, the Fundación Antonio de Nebrija, the Federación de Empresarios de Hoyo de Manzanares and the Delegación Noroeste de la Cámara de Comercio de Madrid, is to promote the recognition of entrepreneurship carried out by women in the northwest area of the Community of Madrid.
